Video, brochure provide information to future pros

Copies of a video and brochure designed to assist student-athletes who are considering a professional sports career have been provided to Division I institutions and conference commissioners.

The video, "The First Step: Drafting Your Team," and the brochure, the second edition of "A Career in Professional Athletics: A Guide for Making the Transition," were produced under the direction of the former NCAA Special Committee on Agents and Amateurism and the NCAA Professional Sports Liaison Committee.

Three copies of the video and 25 copies of the brochure recently were mailed to directors of athletics at Division I institutions.

The video and brochure also were mailed to commissioners of NCAA conferences and executive directors of selected coaches' associations.

The video is an introduction to the professional sports world and is the first in a multipart series intended to assist student-athletes who are thinking about pro sports careers.

The materials make note of the small number of student-athletes who actually become professional athletes and encourage viewers and readers to make obtaining a college degree a primary objective.

Additional copies of the brochure are available in lots of 10 for $7.50 or lots of 25 for $15. Copies of the video (in VHS format) are available for $10 each or 10 videos for $100. The brochure and video can be ordered from the NCAA circulation staff at 913/339-1900.

The Association also is encouraging institutions to make copies of the videotape for student-athletes, parents and other appropriate viewers.
