Nominations sought to fill vacancies on Division III Presidents Council

Nominations for four vacancies occurring on the Division III Presidents Council are being solicited by its subcommittee on nominations.

Two of the vacancies are immediate and two are for terms expiring in January.

Council member Samuel R. Williamson, chancellor at University of the South, has resigned effective immediately and Irvin D. Reid, president at Montclair State University, has accepted the position of president at Wayne State University (Michigan), a Division II school.

Two of the vacancies will occur in January, when the terms of Lois B. DeFleur, president at State University of New York at Binghamton, and L. Jay Oliva, president at New York University, expire. Neither is eligible for re-election.

The Division III subcommittee on nominations currently is accepting nominations for all four positions. Nominations must be received at the NCAA national office by Monday, October 27.

After nominations are reviewed, a ballot will be mailed to all Division III chief executive officers to elect the new Presidents Council members.

An individual must be nominated by at least 10 chief executive officers from Division III in order for his or her name to be placed on the ballot. Of the four vacancies, one must be filled by a chief executive officer of a public institution, one must represent an ethnic minority and one must be from a Region 2 institution (New York and Pennsylvania schools).

Nominations should be submitted to Daniel T. Dutcher, chief of staff for Division III, at the national office.

To save time, Division III CEOs are encouraged to submit nominations by fax (913/339-0033) or e-mail (ddutcher@ncaa.org).
