Equity disclosure forms to be mailed

Forms to assist the membership in satisfying the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act for the 1996-97 academic year will be mailed the week of July 7, according to NCAA Director of Research Ursula R. Walsh.

The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act is a federal law that requires all coeducation institutions of higher education that participate in any Title IV Higher Education Act programs to compile and make available gender information relating to intercollegiate athletics departments.

The law requires that the forms be completed and available to the public by October 15.

The forms will be worded in a more user-friendly manner than last year, Walsh said.

She added that they will be accompanied by a computer disk, which should greatly aid the individuals who are compiling the information at member institutions.

The NCAA requests that member institutions send a copy of their compilation to the Association.

The NCAA uses the information in its revenue and expenses study and also in compiling its periodic gender-equity report.

The Association does not release any data for individual institutions.
