Southern California players head water polo all-academic team

Two members of Southern California's men's water polo team, which finished second at the 1996 championship, are among the individuals named to the 1996-97 American Water Polo Coaches Association all-academic team.

Brendan Grubbs and Hrvoje Cizmic are among 87 individuals named to the team.

Seven teams also were honored, including Massachusetts, which placed fourth at the 1996 championship.

The all-academic team includes student-athletes who compiled at least a 3.200 grade-point average (4.000 scale). Listed teams compiled at least a 2.750 GPA.

Pomona-Pitzer placed the most individuals on the team as nine players garnered academic honors. Occidental placed eight individuals on the team.
