III men's and women's all-academic cross country teams named

Eight of the top 10 women's teams and seven of the top 10 men's teams from the 1996 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are among Division III teams receiving all-academic team honors in cross country.

The honors program is sponsored by the Division III Cross Country Coaches Association.

To qualify for all-academic honors, a team must have a combined grade-point average of at least 3.000 (4.000 scale) during the fall semester and compete at an NCAA regional meet.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh, which claimed the 1996 women's team title, and Wisconsin-La Crosse, which won the 1996 men's title, headline the all-academic teams. Wisconsin-Oshkosh, which has finished among the top two teams at seven of the last 10 championships, posted a combined GPA of 3.090, while Wisconsin-La Crosse, which claimed its first team title in 1996, accumulated a team GPA of 3.020.

Men's teams that received all-academic honors and finished among the top 10 at the 1996 championships include Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Williams, Calvin, Tufts, Haverford and Augustana (Illinois); women's teams include St. Thomas (Minnesota), College of New Jersey, Calvin, Williams, Loras, St. Olaf and Wisconsin-La Crosse.
