Forty-five summer basketball leagues are approved for 1997

Forty-five summer basketball leagues have been certified by the Association for 1997 competition.

The first leagues certified this year for summer competition include 27 for men and 18 for women.

Student-athletes from NCAA institutions participate each summer in hundreds of leagues certified in accordance with NCAA Bylaws 14.7.5.2 and 30.15.

Questions about the application process or requirements for NCAA certification of summer leagues should be directed to David J. Thurkill, NCAA legislative assistant, at the national office.

Following are the leagues approved for participation.

Men

California -- San Francisco Bay Area Pro-Am Basketball League, San Francisco.

Georgia -- Augusta Summer Basketball League, Augusta; Fountain City Midnight Basketball League, Columbus.

Illinois -- Sonny Parker Summer Basketball League, Chicago.

Indiana -- Bourbon Summer Basketball League, Bourbon.

Kentucky -- Owensboro Pro-Am Summer League, Owensboro.

Maryland -- Nike Jabbo Kenner Memorial Summer League, Largo.

Michigan -- Michigan Basketball Association Summer League, Flint; City of Holland Recreation Summer Basketball League, Holland; Grand Traverse Bay YMCA Summer Basketball League, Traverse City.

Minnesota -- Give and Go Basketball League, St. Paul.

New Jersey -- Branch Brook Park Summer League, Newark.

New York -- I.S.8 College Division 1997, Jamaica; Holcombe Rucker Summer League, New York City; Jewish Community Center NCAA Sanctioned Men's Summer League, Vestal.

North Carolina -- Men's Open Basketball League, Mount Holly.

Ohio -- CYC Men's College Basketball League, Canton.

Pennsylvania -- Bethlehem Bureau of Recreation City Basketball, Bethlehem; Eleventh and Pike Summer League, Reading; West Reading Summer Basketball League, West Reading.

South Carolina -- Middle Tyger Summer Basketball League, Duncan.

Texas -- City of Bedford Men's Summer Basketball League, Bedford; Houston Summer College Basketball League, Houston; Dewey Recreation Center Summer Basketball League, Waco.

Utah -- Logan Parks and Recreation Men's Open League, Logan.

Virginia -- Vienna Parks and Recreation Adult Summer Basketball League, Vienna.

West Virginia -- Bridgeport Adult Basketball League, Bridgeport.

Women

California -- Rumble at the Rock Basketball Tourney, Morrow Bay; Marih Women's Basketball League, San Anselmo; San Francisco Bay Area Women's Pro-Am Basketball League, San Francisco.
