Executive Committee

$15 million distribution approved for Division I membership

The NCAA Executive Committee has ap-proved a distribution of $15 million in excess revenue from the 1995-96 budget.

The money will be distributed to the Division I membership in January through the basketball fund and broad-based funds of the revenue-distribution plan.

In another significant action, the Executive Committee approved an expansion of the Division I Women's Volleyball Championship field from 48 teams to 56 teams, effective for the 1997 championship.

Restructuring

Transition Oversight Committee favors extension of moratorium

The Transition Oversight Committee has recommended that the NCAA membership moratorium be continued until at least the conclusion of the January 1998 NCAA Convention.

The moratorium, established by the NCAA Council August 9, 1995, was to last at least through the implementation of the new governance structure. At its recent meeting, the Transition Oversight Committee recommended that it would be appropriate to extend the moratorium until each division has had an opportunity to fully implement its new structure and consider legislation through its new legislative process, which for Divisions II and III would be the January 1998 Convention.

Division I

Management Council supports goals for representation diversity

The NCAA Division I transition Manage-ment Council supports a 1997 Convention proposal to establish minimal goals for gender and ethnic-minority representation on the division's governing bodies, as well as an effort to make alteration of the process for achieving those goals more difficult.

The transition Management Council favors placing such legislation in the constitution, rather than the bylaws.
