Division II selects Bryant as vice-chair of Management Council

Shirley also appointed to group

The Division II Management Council Transition Team has elected Clint Bryant, director of athletics and head men's basketball coach at Augusta State University, as its vice-chair.

In addition, Thomas R. Shirley Jr., director of athletics and head women's basketball coach at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, has been appointed to the Division II Management Council Transition Team as the representative of the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Bryant, a former NCAA Council member who represents the Peach Belt Conference on the Management Council, was elected to a one-year term as vice-chair. His election was ratified by the Division II Presidents Council Transition Team.

The Division II Management Council Transition Team will become the Division II Management Council upon implementation of restructuring, currently scheduled for August 1997.

If 1997 Convention Proposal No. 25 is adopted by the Division II membership, the Division II Management Council vice-chair will have the following duties:

  • Take the chair's place and perform the chair's duties if the chair is absent or incapacitated. (Current Division II Vice-President Lynn L. Dorn serves as the Division II Management Council Transition Team's chair.)

  • Serve as a member of the Division II Administrative Committee (as proposed in 1997 Convention Proposal No. 23).

  • Serve as a member of the Division II Budget and Finance Committee (as proposed in 1997 Convention Proposal No. 24).

  • Serve as chair of the Division II Championships Committee (as proposed in 1997 Convention Proposal No. 28-O).
