Proposals to be sought for 2001, 2002 finals in I women's basketball

The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee has approved a timetable for selecting sites for the 2001 and 2002 Women's Final Four.

The committee met October 28-29 in Cincinnati.

Facility/site questionnaires will be distributed this month to Division I member institutions, conferences and cities/sports commissions that have expressed interest in hosting a Women's Final Four.

Written proposals and accompanying materials, such as proposed budgets and the completed questionnaire, should be returned to the national office by January 15.

The site-selection subcommittee will review proposals in March and recommend which sites to visit in person.

The site visits will be conducted during the spring.

Selection of the 2001 and 2002 sites will be made at the June 23-27, 1997, meeting of the basketball committee.

The committee also approved a timetable for the drawing for tickets for the 1998 Women's Final Four. The NCAA receives more requests for tickets than there are seats available.

Applications will be distributed in June or July 1997, and the drawing will be conducted in August. Processing of refunds and the assignment of tickets will occur in September, with tickets and refunds mailed in late September.

  • Clarified the ticket policy for infants at the championship. The policy of the host regarding whether an infant needs a ticket will be followed during the first and second rounds and the regionals, but everyone -- including infants -- will be required to have a ticket for the Women's Final Four.

  • Changed the policy on mementos provided by the host, limiting the value to $25 each and restricting the number to the members of the traveling party of the participating teams.

  • Met with the members of the Cincinnati organizing committee to review plans for the 1997 Women's Final Four.

  • Revised ticket prices, effective for the 1998 championship. New minimum ticket prices are:

First/second rounds -- All-games package is $10 for students and $15 for all others. The prices were $6 and $10, respectively. Single-game prices increased to $6 for students, up from $3, and to $10 for students, up from $5.

Regionals -- All-games package increased to $12 for students and $25 for all others. Prices were $8 and $12, respectively. For single-game tickets, the prices increased to $8 for students, up from $4, and to $15 for others, up from $6.

  • Authorized a survey of Division I institutions regarding selection of predetermined sites for first- and second-round games of the tournament. Currently, those games are held on the campuses of participating institutions.
