Faculty reps to discuss role in new NCAA structure

FARA's annual fall meeting set for November 21-22 in Atlanta

The role of faculty athletics representatives in the new NCAA governance structure will be examined during the annual fall meeting of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association (FARA).

The meeting will take place November 21-22 at the Renaissance Atlanta Hotel-Concourse in Atlanta.

Faculty representatives attending the meeting will hear from a number of speakers who have been closely involved in the NCAA restructuring process. Among those who are scheduled to speak are NCAA Executive Director Cedric W. Dempsey; Roy F. Kramer, commissioner of the Southeastern Conference; and James E. Delany, commissioner of the Big Ten Conference.

New faculty representatives are encouraged to attend an orientation program that will begin at 2 p.m. November 21. The orientation program was enhanced at the 1995 fall meeting, with positive response from the FARA membership.

Other key parts of the meeting will include the report from FARA's legislative review committee and the business session, which will include a report from the FARA constitution committee.

Those who plan to attend are encouraged to register early. The registration form (which has been mailed to all FARA members) and the $95 registration fee are to be mailed to Phyllis Tonn at the NCAA national office before November 14.

The fee covers a dinner buffet the evening of November 21 and a luncheon November 22.

Also, FARA members are reminded that the deadline for submitting hotel reservations is October 30. Individuals making reservations after that date may not qualify for FARA's preferred rate.
