Volleyball committee recommends Hawaii for '98 championship

The NCAA Men's Volleyball Committee will recommend to the NCAA Executive Committee that the University of Hawaii, Manoa, host the 1998 National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship.

The committee determined the proposed site during its annual meeting September 22-24 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The championship would be held at Hawaii's new Special Events Arena, which has a seating capacity of 10,225. Hawaii hosted the 1991 championship and also will host the 1999 Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.

The committee also is soliciting bids to host the 1999 championship, set for May 6 and 8. Institutions interested in submitting bid proposals should contact Carl E. Daniels, assistant director of championships, at the NCAA national office.

The 1997 championship will be played at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio, and will be hosted by Ohio State University.

In addition to site selections, the committee determined conferences that will receive automatic qualification for the 1997 championship. Those conferences are the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.

The committee also arranged to meet with NCAA corporate partners in the Columbus, Ohio, area to discuss methods for marketing and promoting the 1997 championship.
