Game tickets and refunds for the 1997 Final Four, which will be played March 29 and 31 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, have been mailed to members of the general public who were selected through a drawing to receive tickets. 3329N21ff

About 167,900 entries for tickets were received, the second largest drawing in Final Four history.

The RCA Dome will seat about 47,000 for the 1997 Final Four. About 34 percent were allocated to the general public, with the remaining tickets reserved for the four participating institutions (30 percent); the host institution and local organizing committee (12.5 percent); representatives of the NCAA membership, such as conference commissioners, chief executive officers and various committee members (10 percent); members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (7.5 percent); and Division I member institutions (6 percent).

Applicants could enter as many times as they wanted, but only one entry per household was selected, with a maximum of two tickets. A VAX 4100 computer from the Digital Equipment Corporation was programmed to randomly select the applications, which were received from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and six foreign countries.

Indiana had more applicants than any other state with 54,151 -- 32 percent of the entries submitted. About 500 Indiana cities and towns were represented in the drawing.
