Martial, Swords, Mohlman lead GTE academic women's team

Track and field athletes from two Division I institutions and a lacrosse player at a Division III institution lead the GTE Academic All-America women's at-large teams for the spring semester.

Nicola Martial of Nebraska and Katy Swords of Southern Methodist share this spring's award for GTE Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in the university division, while Michele Mohlman of Goucher won the honor in the college division. The three student-athletes were selected as the individuals who best exemplify the athletics and academic achievements of Academic All-America team members.

Martial, a senior, compiled a 3.810 grade-point average (4.000 scale) as an education major at Nebraska, while Swords, a junior, has a 3.990 GPA in premedicine and Russian at Southern Methodist. Mohlman, a senior, compiled a 3.700 GPA in management and English at Goucher.

The Academic All-America teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Individuals selected for the teams must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.200.

Following are this year's at-large teams for the spring semester.
