Forty-seven more summer basketball events certified

Another 47 summer basketball events have been certified in accordance with legislation regulating Division I men's and women's basketball coaches' attendance at camps and other activities.

In accordance with NCAA Bylaw 13.13.5, basketball coaches at Division I institutions may attend only institutional basketball camps as defined in Bylaw 13.13.1.1 and noninstitutional organized events -- such as camps, leagues, tournaments and festivals -- held during the July evaluation period and certified under Bylaw 30.15.

The Division I evaluation period for men and women is July 8-31.

Other events previously certified by the Association were listed in the May 27 issue of The NCAA News.

Beginning August 1, all events during or outside the July evaluation period must be certified before Division I men's and women's basketball coaches can attend. The requirement was adopted by the Division I membership at the 1996 NCAA Convention.

More information about certification can be obtained from David J. Thurkill, NCAA legislative assistant, at the national office.

Following are the 24 men's and 23 women's events recently certified, with sites and dates of the events and names, addresses and telephone numbers of principal owners.
