Mark Lewis, executive vice president of championships and alliances, and Dan Gavitt, vice president of men’s basketball, have been named to the USA Basketball Board of Directors. Their terms begin in 2013 and run through 2016.
Lewis and Gavitt will be part of an 11-member board composed of three professional directors, three collegiate directors, two athlete representatives, one scholastic director, one at-large/independent director and one organizational member director.
In addition to Lewis and Gavitt, other board members are:
“Being able to combine my previous experience on the Olympics with my current role at the NCAA is something I look forward to in hopes of contributing to the continued success of USA Basketball,” said Lewis, who previously was president of Jet Set Sports, a hospitality and event company that partnered with various local and national Olympic organizing committees.
Gavitt, whose father, Dave, chaired USA Basketball from 1989-92, said: “In my role overseeing men’s college basketball, I truly appreciate knowing I am directly impacting young student-athletes pursuing their dreams. It is even more satisfying to know I will now continue to stay connected with some of them as they move from the collegiate ranks to representing the USA.”
USA Basketball, a nonprofit organization and the national governing body for men’s and women’s basketball in the United States, is responsible for selecting, training and fielding USA teams that compete in events sponsored by the International Basketball Federation, as well as in select national competitions.
