Kyle Rechlicz
Kyle Rechlicz is Milwaukee’s new head women’s basketball coach. Rechlicz was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Wisconsin last season. She was also Dayton’s associate head coach and recruiting coordinator from 2007-2011 and an assistant at Cleveland State from 2003-07.
Other transactions
Athletics directors – Concordia (Texas) appointed Stan Bonewitz as its director of athletics. Bonewitz is also the school’s basketball coach and will continue in that role. He served as interim AD for the past eight months … Mary Washington chose Ken Tyler as its new director of athletics. Tyler held the same role at West Virginia Wesleyan previously. He replaces Edward Hegmann, who is retiring from the university after 36 years … Andy Geiger is Milwaukee’s new athletics director. Geiger has previously been the AD at five Division I schools over a span of 35 years; Brown, Pennsylvania, Stanford, Maryland and Ohio State … Western Kentucky removed the interim tag from Todd Stewart, making him director of athletics. Stewart, who has been with the school for four years, held the interim title since March.
Associate athletics directors – Florida State elevated Vanessa Fuchs to senior associate athletics director while designating her senior woman administrator. Fuchs originally joined the Seminoles in 2010 and spent seven years before that working at the NCAA.
Faculty athletics representatives – Bradley appointed Steve Tippett as its Faculty Athletics Representative. Tippett is the chair of the institution’s Department of Physical Therapy and Health Science.
Senior woman administrators – Chatham appointed head swimming and diving coach Christina Sheets senior woman administrator. Sheets took over as head coach in March.
Coaches
Baseball – Florida Southern promoted Lance Niekro from assistant to head baseball coach. Former coach Pete Meyer is stepping aside and will continue his role as athletics director.
Men’s basketball – St. Bonaventure and head men’s basketball coach Mark Schmidt agreed to a long-term contract extension, keeping him with the Bonnies through the 2018-19 season … York named Matt Hunter head men’s basketball and golf coach. Hunter replaces Jeff Gamber, who is retiring after 35 years leading both programs.
Men’s basketball assistants – North Texas added Rob Evans to its men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant. Evans has spent over 40 years in college basketball, including stints as Arizona State’s and Ole Miss’ head coach … Shea Seals is Tulsa’s new director of player development/team manager for the men’s basketball team. Seals, a former Golden Hurricane player, coached at the high school level previously … Virginia Tech hired three assistant men’s basketball coaches, Kurt Kanaskie, Mark Byington and Ramon Williams.
Women’s basketball – Ball State named Brady Sallee head women’s basketball coach. Sallee comes from Eastern Illinois, where he coached the past eight seasons … Mars Hill head women’s basketball Jennifer Williams resigned. She spent the last six years in the role … Wake Forest hired Jennifer Hoover as its head women’s basketball coach. Hoover, who starred for the Demon Deacons from 1987-1991, spent last season at High Point’s head coach.
Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field – Marymount (Virginia) named Marco Zane Castro head men’s and women’s cross country and triathlon coach … San Jose State tabbed Ron Davis as its head cross country and women’s track coach. Davis, a national champion as a student-athlete with the Spartans, has over 40 years of coaching experience.
Men’s and women’s fencing – Jim Carpenter is Stevens Institute of Technology’s new head men’s fencing coach.
Men’s and women’s golf – Seattle head men’s and women’s golf coach Don Rasmussen resigned. He was originally hired in 2008 as the first coach for both programs.
Men’s and women’s soccer – Wisconsin-Whitewater selected Tony Guinn to lead its men’s soccer program as head coach. Guinn was most recently Western Illinois’ head coach for five seasons, beginning in 2007.
Softball – Selena Collins resigned from her role as Trinity (Texas) head softball coach. Collins recently completed her second season with the Tigers.
Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Olivet hired Elise Knoche as its head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach. She was most recently an assistant at St. Thomas (Minnesota) for three seasons.
Sport sponsorship
Hamilton announced that it is adding women’s golf as its 29th varsity sport. The program will be led by Steve Stetson, who stepped down from his role as head football coach to lead both the men’s and women’s programs.
Miscellaneous
The IUPUI Robert H. McKinney School of Law announced recipients of its 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award, which includes Indiana athletics director Fred Glass.
