Katie Marcella
Keuka head women’s basketball coach Dave Sweet is stepping down, making way for assistant Katie Marcella to take over as head coach. Sweet led the program for 12 seasons, while Marcella was originally hired in 2008. Sweet, who has also been the school’s athletics director, will continue those duties.
Other transactions
Athletics directors – Assumption appointed Nick Smith as its new director of athletics. Smith, who succeeds the retiring Ted Paulauskas, previously worked at Stonehill since 2003 … Texas A&M-Kingsville athletics director Kenneth Oliver resigned, effective June 15. Oliver had held the role since 2009.
Deputy athletics directors – Missouri chose Doug Gillin as its deputy athletics director. Gillin spent the last 12 years with IMG College and previously worked at Missouri from 1995-99.
Coaches
Men’s basketball assistants – Ithaca added Jon Tanous to its men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant. Tanous held the role in an interim capacity since September 2011 … North Carolina tabbed Hubert Davis as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Davis, who played for the Tar Heels from 1988-1992, has been an ESPN analyst the past seven years.
Women’s basketball – North Carolina A&T selected Tarrell Robinson to lead its women’s basketball program as head coach. Robinson spent the last three years as an assistant at VCU and spent four seasons on the North Carolina A&T staff as an assistant before that.
Women’s basketball assistants – Saint Augustine’s hired Jarita Crump as an assistant women’s basketball coach.
Football assistants – Lamar named Carey Bailey and Kevin Barbay assistant football coaches. Bailey will coach the defensive line, while Barbay will handle the receivers … Saint Augustine’s added Chris Parker as an assistant football coach. Parker will coach the safeties.
Men’s and women’s golf – Campbell promoted Tim Crooks from assistant to associate head men’s and women’s golf coach. Crooks has been with the institution since 2004.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Cincinnati head women’s lacrosse coach Lellie Swords resigned from her position. Swords had led the program the last five seasons.
Men’s and women’s soccer – Houston head women’s soccer coach Susan Quill resigned after five seasons at the helm … Wesleyan (Georgia) named Ciaran Traquair its head women’s soccer coach.
Conferences
Butler will join the Atlantic 10 Conference in every sports except football beginning with the 2013-14 season … Georgetown College, which announced intentions to apply for NCAA Division II membership, has joined the Great Midwest Athletic Conference as a provisional member … The Sun Belt Conference is adding Texas State, which will begin competition for the 2013-14 academic year.
Miscellaneous
After 44 years with Minnesota Duluth as a player, coach and staff member, Scott Hanna is retiring. Hanna played football and went on to serve as head baseball coach, assistant football coach and athletics department equipment manager.
