NCAA Hall of Champions offers summer storytelling sessions

The NCAA Hall of Champions is offering free and interactive storytelling sessions for young children this summer. Every Tuesday through July 31, youth are invited to the Great Hall in the White River State Park at 11 a.m. for free lemonade, popcorn and story tales. Members of the NCAA staff who were former student-athletes have volunteered to share their favorite children’s books and experiences as both student-athletes and national office employees.

“This is a great way for people to get to know our NCAA staff members who were former student-athletes,” said Kelly Dodds, assistant director of Hall of Champions and NCAA Conference Center. “It’s a way for NCAA staff to give back to the Indianapolis community and help youth understand the benefits of getting a good education. So far the staff, parents and children have loved it.”

Parents and children who aren’t sports fans can still enjoy the storytelling periods. NCAA staff members are reading a number of classic children’s books including “Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies” and “Horton Hears a Hoo”. Two staff members each read a story to the group and sessions typically last 45 minutes.

Staff members from all levels and backgrounds are participating and those interested can hear more about the employees’ work at the national office. If parents and children choose to take a Hall of Champions tour following the session, they will receive one dollar off admission.
