Judy MacLeod, executive associate commissioner of Conference USA, has been appointed to the Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, effective immediately. Her term will run through the 2014-15 academic year. MacLeod replaces Steve Orsini, the former director of athletics at Southern Methodist University.
“This is a tremendous honor and I am excited to begin work with this prestigious group,” MacLeod said. “As a conference administrator, I understand the thorough preparation required from the committee. As a former college basketball student-athlete and coach, I’m thrilled for the opportunity to contribute to a sport I love.”
MacLeod’s service to the NCAA includes current membership on the Administration Cabinet and the student-athlete well-being working group. She has also served on the Division I Management Council, the Championships and Competition Cabinet, the Football Certification Committee, the Business/Finance Cabinet, the Basketball Marketing Committee and academic working groups for both football and baseball.
MacLeod obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Puget Sound and earned a master’s degree from the University of Tulsa. She joined the Conference USA staff in 2005 as associate commissioner for governance and national policy and stayed in that role for seven months before being appointed to her current position. In her role now, she oversees sports services, compliance, academic and business affairs and general oversight of league operations.
Prior to joining the Conference USA staff, MacLeod spent 15 years at Tulsa, where she started as a graduate assistant before progressing over a five-year period from a compliance officer and director of ticket sales to assistant athletics director and associate athletics director. She was named Tulsa’s director of athletics in 1995 and remained in that position for 10 years. Before working at Tulsa, MacLeod served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Seattle University for four seasons and also was a sport manager for the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle.
