The Summer 2012 issue of NCAA Champion magazine is now available online. The Association’s official quarterly publication was mailed to NCAA campuses this week.
This edition of Champion features an in-depth look at the student-athlete experience in all three divisions. Writer Brian Hendrickson follows Texas long-jumper (and football player) Marquise Goodwin through the NCAA track championships and the Olympic Trials. Follow Goodwin’s accomplishments and learn about his compelling story through this close-up portrayal.
Also, ride along with the Division II Colorado State-Pueblo softball team as players and coaches take a 400-mile journey to Chadron State for a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match-up. Life on the bus is common to most every NCAA student-athlete, but in the RMAC it’s even more a way of life. Champion’s David Pickle describes the experience and the many team-bonding benefits that result.
Meanwhile, Brian Burnsed provides an insightful look inside the world of Division III athletics. He follows four student-athletes from varied backgrounds and with aspirations that are diverse save for one: the desire to compete at their very best. Find out what that’s like by reading “Committed to play.”
In addition to the features, Champion provides its customary championships review, with stunning photography from NCAA Photos on the NCAA’s spring-sport finals. Other highlights in the Summer 2012 issue include profiles of SUNY New Paltz AD Stuart Robinson, who chairs the Division III Championships Committee, and Southern strength and conditioning coach Corliss Fingers, who is among only a handful of women to serve in that role at a Division I football school.
Be sure to follow NCAA Champion magazine on Facebook. The next issue of the magazine will print and distribute in October.
