Cal State Fullerton named Isaac Salazar head strength and conditioning coach. Salazar earned his master’s degree in kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton in 2009 and was a graduate assistant with the Titans from 2007-09. He replaces Greg Vandermade, who resigned to take a position focused on football at Arizona State.

Men’s basketball – Connecticut head men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun is taking an indefinite leave of absence.

Football – Tim Landis stepped down from his position as head football coach at Rensselaer after one season. Offensive coordinator Guido Falbo will be the acting head coach through 2012.

Football assistants – Furman selected Jimmy Lindsey as its defensive line coach. Lindsey most recently completed his second season as defensive line and special teams coach at Chattanooga … Mount St. Joseph added Greg Huster to its football coaching staff as assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Huster, a Mount St. Joseph alum and former player, was most recently Cincinnati’s coordinator of recruiting services … South Carolina named Grady Brown secondary coach. Brown. Who has spent the last three years at Southern Mississippi, will also serve as assistant special teams coordinator … Malik Hall is returning to his role of defensive coordinator at Wager. Hall was the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator in 2010 before serving as a defensive line coach at Massachusetts last season.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – DePauw chose Carl Haas as its first head men’s lacrosse coach. The Tigers will begin competition in both men’s and women’s lacrosse in the 2012-13 academic year.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Gustavus Adolphus named Laura Burnett-Kurie its head women’s soccer coach. Burnett-Kurie was most recently an assistant at Redlands … Bobby Desilets is Wentworth Institute’s new co-head women’s soccer coach and assistant women’s lacrosse coach. Desilets was the head women’s soccer coach at Newbury the last three seasons … Macalester tabbed Michele Cornish as its new head women’s soccer coach.

Staff

Strength and conditioning – Rhode Island hired Richard Johnson as its head strength and conditioning coach. Johnson spent the last ten months at Maine as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Deaths

Former cross country and track and field coach Jerry Quiller passed away at 69. Quiller coached at Colorado State, Colorado, Wayne State (Michigan), Idaho State and Army.
