NCAA student-athletes – there were at least 132 current or enrolled student-athletes that participated – performed very well during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
NCAA student-athletes combined to win 47 medals (22 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze). If the student-athletes were their own country, they would rank behind host nation Great Britain, which finished fourth in the overall medal count with 65 and ahead of Germany, which finished fifth in the medal count with 44.
The 132 participants would also put NCAA student-athletes as the country with the 24th most participants in the Games. That ranks just behind the Czech Republic, which has 133 athletes competing at the Games and just ahead of Belgium, which sent a delegation of 118 athletes to London.
