Bennie Seltzer
Samford chose Bennie Seltzer as its head men’s basketball coach. Seltzer spent the last four seasons at Indiana as an assistant. Prior to that, Seltzer was an assistant at Marquette and Oklahoma. Seltzer played collegiately at Washington State from 1989-1993.
Other transactions
Associate athletics directors – Rutgers promoted Jason Baum to senior associate athletics director of communications.
Coaches
Men’s basketball – Ohio tabbed Jim Christian as its new head men’s basketball coach. Christian comes from TCU, where he spent the last four seasons as head coach.
Men’s basketball assistants – South Carolina made several hires for its men’s basketball coaching staff: Brad Underwood is the associate head coach, Matt Figger and Lamont Evans are assistants, Andy Assaley is director of basketball operations, and Scott Greenwalt is the strength coach … David Boyden is returning to his alma mater, Western Kentucky, as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Boyden was an assistant at Tennessee Tech last season and previously spent 2008-2010 with the Hilltoppers.
Women’s basketball – Boston College named Erik Johnson head women’s basketball coach. Johnson was the head coach at Denver for the past four years. He was also previously an assistant at Boston College from 2006-08 … Green Bayhired Kevin Borseth as its head women’s basketball coach. Borseth was the head coach at Michigan the past five seasons and previously served as head coach of the Phoenix from 1998-2007.
Staff
Facilities – Radford named Marcus Attles director of facilities & equipment. Attles was the assistant director of event operations at Central Florida since 2009.
Sports information – Bill Turnage is retiring from his position as Florida Southern’s sports information director. He has been at Florida Southern for 10 years and spent 21 at Central Missouri before that.
Conferences
The Capital Athletic Conference is adding Christopher Newport as a full member beginning in 2013 … The Landmark Conference appointed Daniel A. Fisher as its commissioner. Fisher has been the New England Small College Athletic Conference’s assistant director for conference operations since 2005.
Deaths
Buffalo State head softball coach Sandy Hollander died at the age of 52. Hollander had been the Bengals’ head softball coach since 1989.
