Wright Waters
Wright Waters, the Sun Belt Conference’s commissioner since 1998, announced his retirement effective July 1, 2012. Under Waters’ direction, the Sun Belt became a Bowl Championship Series conference and expanded its television reach. Overall, Waters has more than 20 years experience as a conference commissioner.

Coaches
Women’s basketball assistants – Dayton hired Louis Suttmann as director of women’s basketball operations. Suttmann was a manager during his time as a student at Dayton from 2006-09 … Vanderbilt chose Chanell Thomas as director of women’s basketball operations and Rebecca Silinski as graduate assistant.
Football assistants – West Virginia elevated Alex Hammond from coordinator of recruiting operations to director of football operations. Hammond joined the staff in July.
Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistants – Brown named Lucy Schoedel assistant women’s ice hockey coach. Schoedel spent the 2010-11 season as an assistant coach at Wesleyan (Connecticut).
Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Liz Longley is Connecticut College’s interim head women’s lacrosse coach. Longley was most recently the head coach at Oberlin.
Men’s and women’s swimming and diving assistants – New York University added Spencer Popeson to its women’s swimming and diving staff as an assistant. Popeson is also an assistant with the men’s and women’s track and cross country teams, a role he will maintain.
Deaths
College of Charleston athletic director Tom Nozica passed away due to cancer at 69. Nozica had been the school’s baseball coach since 1969 and athletic director for the past 13 years.
