Loyola (Maryland) chose Omari Israel as its director of men’s basketball operations. Israel played for the Greyhounds for two seasons after transferring from Notre Dame, where he spent a season and a half. Israel has played professionally in Europe since graduating in 2009.
Other transactions
Presidents and chancellors – Indianapolis President Beverley Pitts is stepping down next summer after leading the institution for seven years. Pitts became the school’s first female president when hired in 2005.
Athletics directors – Savannah State appointed Sterling Steward Jr. director of intercollegiate athletics. Steward comes to Savannah State from Mississippi Valley State, where he had served as senior consultant for athletics administration since April.
Associate athletics directors – Georgia State elevated Dena Freeman-Patton to associate director of athletics for student-athlete development. Freeman-Patton was previously an assistant director of athletics and began at Georgia State in 2007 … West Florida promoted Tony Nguyen to associate athletics director. Nguyen is in his 12th year with the athletics department, the first eight of which were as head athletic trainer.
Coaches
Football – West Virginia Wesleyan removed the interim title from Jonas Jackson, making him head football coach. Jackson was named interim coach when Denny Creehan resigned this summer to become director of athletics at Alderson-Broaddus.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Southern Maine named Sam Lane head men’s lacrosse coach. Lane succeeds Malcolm Chase, who resigned from the position earlier this month after five seasons at the helm to pursue other professional opportunities.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants – Dan Keating and Mike Keating are Saint Joseph’s new assistant men’s lacrosse coaches. Dan spent last season as an assistant at Lehigh, while Mike was an assistant at Pennsylvania.
Softball assistants – Memphis added Heather Mosser to its softball staff as an assistant coach. Mosser comes from McNeese State, where she spent 2011 as a student volunteer coach.
Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – New York University promoted Kacey McCaffrey to acting head women’s swimming and diving coach. McCaffrey originally joined the team this year as an assistant.
Staff
Communications – George Washington hired Brian Sereno as executive director of athletics communications. Sereno comes from the NBA’s Washington Wizards, where he served as director of basketball communications.
Strength and conditioning – Loyola Chicago named Angie Sorensen assistant strength and conditioning coach.
