St. Joseph’s (Long Island) hired Tim Trava as its head men’s soccer coach. Trava takes over for Gary Smith, who founded the program in 1986 and recently retired. Trava just completed his sixth season as an assistant with the Golden Eagles and is a 2004 graduate of the institution.

R.C. Johnson

College at Brockport announced that Athletics Director Noah LeFevre is leaving to take a position at Manhattan. Current Associate Director of Athletics Erick Hart will become interim AD in mid-December … Memphis Director of Athletics R.C. Johnson is retiring, effecting June 30, 2012. Johnson served as the head of the department for nearly 16 years, starting with his hiring in 1995 … Sam Beidleman, the Muhlenberg director of athletics and recreation, will retire effective June 30, 2012. Beidleman initially retired in 2000 but returned in 2003. He has been affiliated with the institution for more than 50 years.

Coaches

Football – Akron released head football coach Rob Ianello after two years … Arizona State head football coach Dennis Erickson will not return for a sixth season … Ohio State chose Urban Meyer to lead its football program as head coach. Meyer has head coaching experience at three prior stops – Bowling Green, Utah and Florida … Mayville (Tennessee) is replacing head football coach Tony Ierulli. Ierulli, a 1980 graduate of the institution, just completed his ninth season at the helm … Neil Callaway has resigned from his position as UAB head football coach. Callaway spent five seasons with the program after being the offensive coordinator at Georgia for six years … UCLA relieved head football coach Rick Neuheisel of his duties after four years. Neuheisel will coach the Bruins in the Pac-12 championship game, after which offensive coordinator/receivers coach Mike Johnson will take over on an interim basis.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Seton Hall head men’s soccer coach Manfred Schellscheidt will step down after 24 years leading the program.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – John Carroll head women’s volleyball coach Cally Plummer is stepping down from the position. Plummer took over the position in 2005 after serving as a graduate assistant at her alma mater, South Carolina, for a season.

Staff

Strength and conditioning – New York University named Dea Cook assistant strength and conditioning coach.
