Craig Jones
George Washington named Craig Jones head men’s soccer coach. Jones is replacing the retiring George Lidster. Jones has been the Colonials’ top assistant for the past three seasons after serving as the squad’s volunteer assistant from 2002 to 2008. Additionally, he played for George Washington from 1995 to 1998.
Other transactions
Athletics directors – Cal State Stanislaus appointed Gabriel Bolton interim athletics director. Bolton, the institution’s head women’s soccer coach, replaces Milt Richards, who resigned to take a similar position at Simon Fraser … Pete Carlon will step down as athletics director at Texas-Arlington to assume a new senior leadership role. Carlon joined the department in 1981 and has been athletics director since 1996.
Coaches
Men’s basketball assistants – Syracuse placed associate head men’s basketball coach Bernie Fine on administrative leave.
Women’s basketball – Lamar and head women’s basketball coach Larry Tidwell agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the university through the 2013-14 season. Tidwell is in his fifth season with the Cardinals.
Football – Olivet head football coach Rich Hulkow is retiring. Hulkow started with the school in 2010 after a long career in high school athletics.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants – St. Joseph’s (Long Island) added Francesca Mazzola and Mallory Ferrandiz as assistant women’s lacrosse coaches. The hires round out the Golden Eagles’ coaching staff as they begin their first season in women’s lacrosse.
Men’s and women’s soccer – UC Riverside head women’s soccer coach Veronica O’Brien will transition into academic support services after spending 11 seasons as the only head coach in program history.
Deaths
Oklahoma State head women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant women’s basketball coach Miranda Serna were killed along with two others in a plane crash in Arkansas.
