Stanford wrestler, Olivet swimmer head CoSIDA at-large team

Junior wrestler Nick Amuchastegui of Stanford and senior swimmer Kellen Beckwith of Olivet headline the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Amuchastegui and Beckwith have been chosen as the winners of the Academic All-America of the Year award in the university and college divisions, respectively.

The Men’s At-Large cohort for the Academic All-America program includes fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, and wrestling.

A mechanical engineering major with a 3.98 grade-point average, Amuchastegui was a second-team Academic All-America selection last year. He is a two-time NCAA Elite 88 Award winner at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, an award that recognizes the competing student-athlete with the highest GPA.

Beckwith, a mathematics education major with a 4.00 GPA, is a repeat selection on the first team. He is a two-time NCAA Elite 88 Award winner at the NCAA Division III swimming championships. Beckwith is the only swimmer in Olivet history to qualify for NCAA competition all four years. He earned All-America honors each year in the 100-yard backstroke.
