Westwood One and the NCAA announce new multi-year radio rights agreement

Westwood One and the National Collegiate Athletic Association NCAA announced today a new multi-year agreement for Westwood One to continue as the exclusive network radio home of the NCAA Championships including the Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament and Final Four.

“We are proud to continue our very successful partnership with the NCAA,” said Rod Sherwood, President of Westwood One. “This agreement ensures that Westwood One will continue to be America’s preeminent nationwide radio sports broadcaster for years to come.”

“The NCAA and Westwood One have a longstanding relationship and devotion to NCAA Championships, which represent outstanding student-athlete talent in college sports,” said Mark Emmert, NCAA president.  “Westwood One’s commitment to the highest level of excellence in sports broadcasting ensures that millions of NCAA fans nationwide won’t miss a second of championship action.”

“Delivering every bounce, basket and buzzer-beater of NCAA March Madness to our faithful listeners is something we cherish greatly,” said Howard Deneroff, SVP/Executive Producer Westwood One Sports. “From Magic vs. Bird over three decades ago, to Butler’s thrilling Cinderella run just last season, America’s radio destination for college hoops has been, and will continue to be Westwood One.”

Westwood One will continue to exclusively broadcast the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship including the Men’s Final Four the Division II Men’s Basketball Championship, the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship regional finals as well as Women’s Final Four, the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship semifinals and championship; and the Men’s College World Series. Westwood One will also begin airing additional championships as part of the new deal including, the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship and Women’s College World Series Finals.

In addition to network radio, Westwood One is also the exclusive online and mobile audio provider of the NCAA Championships. Westwood One’s 2011 Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament audio broadcasts will be heard on over 450 radio stations, as well as through the use of mobile devices nationwide. Audio broadcasts of all 67 Division I Men’s Basketball Championship games will be streamed online for millions more to enjoy via the Internet.

Westwood One is the leader in play-by-play sports broadcasts on radio.
