Western Carolina added Bruce Johnson to its baseball staff as an assistant coach. Johnson spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant for the Catamounts. He played for current head coach Bobby Moranda for two years before that, graduating in 2009.
Other transactions
Associate athletics directors – Texas Tech consolidated its external operations under the leadership of Senior Associate Athletics Director Steve Uryasz. Also, the Red Raiders promoted Amy McBride to associate athletics director. Senior Associate AD Judy Henry also will assume broader sports administration responsibilities.
Latrell Fleming
Coaches
Women’s basketball assistants – Alverno chose Ronald Kluth and Latrell Fleming as women’s basketball assistants. Kluth most recently coached at the high school level, while Fleming has been coaching in the AAU circuit.
Football – Central Oklahoma relieved head football coach Tracy Holland of his duties. Holland spent four years leading the program. Steve Patterson will take over as interim head coach … Colorado State relieved Steve Fairchild of his duties as head football coach. Fairchild spent four years as the program’s head coach. Secondary coach Tim Duffie has been named transitional coach … Pat Hill will not be retained as Fresno State’s head football coach. Hill had coached the Bulldogs since 1997 … UAB named Garrick McGee head football coach. McGee comes from Arkansas, where he was the offensive coordinator since 2010 … Vanderbilt and head football coach James Franklin agreed to a new contract after his first season leading the Commodores.
Football assistants – Clemson and offensive coordinator Chad Morris agreed to a new contract. This is Morris’ first season with the Tigers … Pittsburgh will replace three offensive assistants: Tony Dews, tight ends coach, Tony Gibson, secondary coach and Calvin Magee, co-offensive coordinator.
Men’s and women’s soccer – Saint Louis announced that head women’s soccer coach Tim Champion will not return for the 2012 season. Champion has been the only head coach in program history, leading the Billikens since their inaugural campaign in 1996 … St. Norbert head men’s soccer coach Andy Steger resigned after four seasons with the Green Knights.
