Trinity (Connecticut) honored the most successful basketball coach in the school's history January 22 by dedicating its gym floor as Stan Ogrodnik Court. Ogrodnik retired after the 2007-08 season with a 469-186 record as men's coach through 27 seasons. His teams made seven appearances in the Division III Men's Basketball Championship and his 1994-95 team advanced to the tournament semifinals. "I don't think a coach can have a greater honor than to receive the permanency of having your name on the court where you spent so many hours," Ogrodnik said during a dedication ceremony between the Bantams' men's and women's games against Amherst. The court where Trinity's basketball and volleyball teams play now bears Ogrodnik's signature. Ogrodnik also coached women's volleyball at the school from 1987 to 1994. He is a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame and last year was honored as a Gold Key recipient by the Connecticut Sportswriters Alliance for his lasting impact on sports in the state. |
