Corrected to acknowledge previous college lacrosse games played in Texas. Trine University's March 13 men's lacrosse game at Southwestern (Texas) was the first college lacrosse game played in the Lone Star State involving a varsity team from Texas, and Trine's Cory Childs made it memorable. Childs scored nine goals and dished out three assists to lead the school from Angola, Indiana, to a 19-6 win. Teammates Andrew Laycock, Sean Hitz and Eric Thompson chipped in two goals apiece. Hitz recorded three assists, as well. Meanwhile, Trine goalkeeper Alex Gregg notched seven saves against a Southwestern program in its first year. For the game, the Thunder fired 48 shots, while the host Pirates had 22. With the game tied at 2 late in the first period, Trine reeled off 10 straight goals to cruise to the win. The last college lacrosse game to be played in Texas was in 2003, when Hobart and Georgetown squared off in a Division I neutral-site matchup in San Antonio.
