Methodist captured its 13th consecutive Division III Women's Golf Championships title Friday at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Monarchs have won the championship in 23 of the tournament's 25 years.

Among the Methodist contingent was Gretchen McLean, who had surgery on her right knee soon after the tournament. She played all four rounds with a large brace on her right leg after tearing her ACL three weeks earlier while hitting out of a hazard.

"It's what you do," she said. "If you can play, you play. We're Methodist. To be out here and win a national championship ... there's nothing better."

Though they won the tournament by 19 strokes, the Monarchs led by just three just with 12 holes to play in the final round.

Jessica Urban of Wisconsin Stevens-Point earned medalist honors by edging Methodist's Paige Caldwell by one shot. Urban fired a final-round 77 to overcome a three-shot deficit. [More]
