Christopher Newport's C. J. Woollum this week became the 26th Division III coach to reach the 500-victory milestone in men's basketball.

Woolum, in his 26th season at the school, became one of 15 currently active coaches to win 500 games with the Captains' victory Tuesday over Greensboro in the USA South Conference tournament quarterfinals.

The coach, who also has served for 23 years as athletics director at Christopher Newport, has led teams to 16 Division III Men's Basketball Championship appearances and 12 conference titles.

He also coached men's golf early during his tenure at the school, leading teams to six Division III Men's Golf Championships appearances through 13 seasons.
