Bob Boerigter, most recently the director of athletics at Northwest Missouri State, has been selected as the next commissioner of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Boerigter will succeed Jim Johnson, who recently became director of athletics at Pittsburg State, an MIAA member institution. Boerigter will begin work with the MIAA on September 20 as the conference's fourth full-time commissioner.

"I am honored to have been asked to serve as the MIAA's next commissioner," Boerigter said. "I am looking forward to serving our membership in this capacity as we continue to expand and grow our services for our member institutions."

He has been the director of athletics at Northwest Missouri State since July 2001. Among other things, he was involved in the planning, construction, completion and opening of the school's $5 million dollar football stadium renovation; a $300,000 refurbishing of the outdoor track facility; and implementation of the Fall Classic at Arrowhead football game, which recorded record-high attendance in Division II football (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008).

He has also had extensive experience within the MIAA and NCAA governance structure, having served on five Division II committees, including a current role on the Management Council.

Before Northwest Missouri State, Boerigter served as the director of athletics at Hastings College, where he is a member of the Hastings College Athletics Hall of Fame.

He also has served as athletics director at Adams State, Northwestern College (Iowa) and Whitworth College.

A graduate of Northwestern College, Boerigter also has a master's degree from the Northern Colorado and a Ph.D. from Utah.
