Seton Hall will add a women's golf team in 2010-11. The new program will compete in the Big East Conference. The Pirates eliminated indoor and outdoor track and field earlier this year.

The administration is assembling a coaching staff and recruiting student-athletes to begin play in the fall of 2010 and compete in the conference in the spring of 2011. Senior Associate Athletics Director Ginger Fulton, a former professional golfer, is leading the search. Fulton established women's golf at Xavier and coached the team for three years.

The Pirates will join Cincinnati, Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Rutgers, St. John's (New York) and South Florida in the Big East.

"We are very excited to add a women's team to our flourishing golf program here at Seton Hall," said men's golf coach Clay White. "We've already begun the recruiting process and are looking forward to bringing in interested student-athletes to compete as charter members. It is a wonderful opportunity for young women interested in golf to earn a good education and compete on a high level."

White led the Pirates' men's team to a third place finish in the Big East each of the past two seasons.
