Sam Houston State baseball coach Mark Johnson earned his 1,000th career victory Sunday when the Bearkats defeated Texas-San Antonio, 8-6.
Johnson coached at Texas A&M for 21 years. He has been at the helm of Sam Houston State for the past four seasons. After Sunday's win, he ranked 15th among active coaches with a 1,000-517-3 record.
"The 1,000 wins are a result of me being involved with two good universities that put a lot into baseball," Johnson told the school's student publication, The Houstonian. "There have been great facilities and really good athletes, along with good assistant coaches who have helped me reach the mark. That combination all works toward success."
The Bearkats are 11-13 this season and have won six consecutive games.
