    Monmouth to add bowling

    Monmouth will add bowling as the school's 20th intercollegiate sport, beginning in 2010-11. The Hawks will be the ninth Northeast Conference member to sponsor the sport.

    Monmouth will join league members Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart, St. Francis (New York), Long Island and associate members Kutztown, New Jersey City, Adelphi and Saint Peter's.

    "Bowling is a high-participation sport in the Shore Conference, and we have a very active club on campus," said Athletics Director Marilyn McNeil. "For those reasons, we believe we can be immediately successful in both the Northeast Conference and the NCAA."

    The school will begin a national search to find the Hawks' first bowling coach.

    The Northeast Conference became an official sponsor of bowling in 2008. Associate member New Jersey City will host the NCAA championship for the second consecutive year.
