Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self tallied his 400th career victory Saturday when the Jayhawks beat Iowa State, 73-59.

The victory gave Self a 400-146 record midway through his 17th season of coaching at the Division I level.

After the victory, Self stood at 193-41 in seven seasons at Kansas. He also earned winning records as head coach at Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Illinois before joining the Jayhawks. Before he was a head coach, Self was an assistant at Oklahoma State and Kansas. He earned two degrees from Oklahoma State.

In a conversation about the kind of coaching longevity that would allow a coach to make a run at the all-time leaders, Self told the Associated Press that he doubts many more coaches will coach long enough to earn 800 or more wins.

"It's different now," he said. "I don't think there's going to be a lot of guys who win 800 from this point forward. The business has changed enough where guys aren't going to coach for as many years as they had. Also, coaches are making more money now so you don't have to work as long to retire."
