The College of New Jersey's David Icenhower now ranks third in victories among all collegiate wrestling coaches and second among Division III coaches after the Lions picked up a pair of wins Saturday at the Metropolitan Conference/New England Duals. The wins against WPI and Roger Williams boosted Icenhower's career total to 516 victories in his 33rd season. Icenhower is one of only four coaches who have recorded 500 dual-meet coaching victories. He reached that milestone in this season's first match November 7, as TCNJ also recorded the 600th victory in program history. With Saturday's victories, Icenhower now is 100 wins behind the late Dale Thomas, who recorded 616 victories through 34 years at Oregon State, and 53 wins behind retired Olivet coach Jare Klein, who leads Division III coaches with the 569 victories he compiled in 33 seasons. Icenhower entered the weekend tied with retired Wilkes coach John Reese, who collected 514 wins in 42 seasons. Icenhower also coached the Lions to five Division III Wrestling Championships team titles between 1979 and 1987. |
