Indiana is using a $15 million donation from the Cook Group – the largest gift in athletics department history – to support and enhance the new development center for men's and women's basketball student-athletes.
The center will be named Cook Hall after the privately held medical devices company and its founders, Bill and Gayle Cook. The gift is the latest in a long line of donations from the company and the family, including gifts to the music, medical and education schools and scholarship programs as well as other donations dedicated to athletics.
The basketball development center will be connected to Assembly Hall and serve as headquarters for the men's and women's basketball programs. It will house practice courts, locker rooms, coaches' offices, meeting rooms and a "Legacy Court."
"This extremely generous gift from Bill and Gayle Cook will leverage many benefits for our athletics programs and for the entire Bloomington community," said President Michael McRobbie. "Their tremendous support will help ensure that we continue to build upon our proud and longstanding traditions of academic and athletic excellence. All of us at Indiana University are grateful for the Cooks' steadfast dedication to the university and community."
The gift will be completed through $1 million payments over 15 years, the first of which was received on January 25.
