Fordham has begun construction on a new locker room for football student-athletes that is expected to be ready for the 2010 season.
The locker room, in the basement of the Rose Hill Gym, will be called the "Beryl and John Lyons Football Locker Room" in honor of John Lyons, who donated $1 million to the project. Lyons' gift was matched by an anonymous former football student-athlete.
In addition to space for 90 lockers, the 4,000-square-foot area will have wide-screen televisions and a theater-type viewing area for the team. The room will feature three sealed lockers to honor Vince Lombardi, Alex Wojciechowicz and Bill Tierney. All three were Rams football student-athletes.
"The new locker room is a tremendous addition to our program," said head coach Tom Masella. "I would like to thank Beryl and John Lyons and one of our former football players for their generosity that helped make this project a reality. The new facility will greatly benefit the Fordham football program."
