Colorado broke ground for a new basketball and volleyball practice facility recently, a $10.8 million project funded by private donations and scheduled for completion in August 2011.
The 35,000-square-foot facility will alleviate scheduling problems the Buffaloes faced by having men's and women's basketball and the volleyball program all sharing the Coors Events Center court for practices. The new building will sit adjacent to the events center and will feature two basketball/volleyball courts, locker rooms, coaches' offices and meeting rooms for the volleyball team.
"This transformational court facility will provide the Buffaloes with unprecedented, year-round opportunities to enhance the development of the men's basketball, women's basketball and women's volleyball programs for the long term," Athletics Director Mike Bohn said. "All three sports will be able to practice simultaneously, and we will also be making operational improvements to the existing space in the Coors Events Center."
The events center hosts about 180 events per year (not including team practices), and the new facility is expected to allow more such events in the facility by giving teams a new place to practice.
