The Big East Conference hired former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue to serve as a special advisor. Tagliabue, who led the NFL from 1989 until 2006, will provide advice to the conference on future television arrangements and other matters.
Tagliabue will serve on a volunteer basis and will help assess the conference's strengths and opportunities as well as the current broadcast climate and other new media opportunities. The Big East just concluded the third year of a six-year agreement with television agreements with ESPN and CBS Sports as well as the third year of its marketing agreement with ISP Sports.
"Few individuals have had as broad and deep experiences in sports as Paul Tagliabue," said Commissioner John Marinatto. "Paul's understanding of collegiate athletics and academics and his extensive experience and leadership of the NFL for 17 years will certainly be invaluable to the BIG EAST Conference and its 16 member institutions."
A 1962 graduate of Big East member Georgetown, Tagliabue currently sits on the school's board.
