Alabama A&M announced recently that it will eliminate men's soccer at the end of the 2010 season.

The move leaves the Bulldogs with 14 sports, six for men and eight for women. The school cited budget cuts as the reason for the decision.

Alabama A&M is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, which does not sponsor men's soccer as a championship sport. The Bulldogs, the only men's soccer team in the SWAC, competed as Division I independents, playing teams from various conferences, including the Missouri Valley Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East Conference and Conference USA. The team was 9-5-3 in 2008 and 4-12-1 in 2009.

Head coach Salah Yousif will remain as an assistant professor with the school, and the athletics department will honor all existing scholarship agreements with the 11 student-athletes on the team and will assist those who wish to transfer.
