Kevin Weiberg, chief executive officer of iHoops, the official youth basketball initiative of the NCAA and NBA, announced Monday that he will be leaving to become deputy commissioner and chief operating officer of the Pacific-10 Conference.
The iHoops board of directors will assume Weiberg's responsibilities as it conducts its search for a new chief executive officer.
Weiberg took over as CEO of iHoops in January 2009 after being vice president of university planning and development with the Big Ten Network. Weiberg was commissioner of the Big 12 Conference for nine years before joining the Big Ten Network in 2007. He was a member of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee from 2001-03.
With iHoops, Weiberg has signed Nike, adidas, and Right Guard as founding partners, and launched ihoops.com – a resource for players, coaches, officials, parents and youth teams at all levels. iHoops also established a partnership with the Amateur Athletic Union to endorse educational and basketball programming efforts.
"Kevin has done a tremendous job getting iHoops up and running through this crucial opening phase, which has been our priority to assure its longevity," said NCAA Interim President Jim Isch. "He is a leader who clearly understands the variety of challenges in the youth basketball environment."
Weiberg will begin his duties at the Pac-10 on April 12.
