Videos featuring discussion and descriptions about sand volleyball, equestrian and rugby are now available on the NCAA Emerging Sports for Women Web site. The videos are intended to help schools understand more about these sports as potential additions to their athletics program.

Equestrian and sand volleyball are on the emerging-sport list for Divisions I and II, while rugby is on the list for all three divisions. However, Division I institutions will conduct an override vote at the NCAA Convention next week to determine if sand volleyball remains on the list.

Kathy DeBoer, the executive director of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, talks about the positive qualities sand volleyball can bring to those institutions interested in adding the sport.

Larry Sanchez, equestrian coach at Oklahoma State, and Kristin Richeimer, the director of membership relations at USA Rugby, do the same for their respective sports.

The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics is charged with identifying and managing progress of emerging sports for women. An emerging sport is a women's sport recognized by the NCAA that is intended to help schools provide more athletics opportunities for women, more sport-sponsorship options for institutions and help that sport achieve NCAA championship status.

NCAA bylaws require that emerging sports must reach 40 varsity programs to gain NCAA championship status. Once a sport is added to the list, it has 10 years to show steady progress toward the goal of reaching championship status to remain on the list.
