The College Sports Information Directors of America recently chose Phoebe Wright of Tennessee and Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific as Academic All-Americans of the Year for women's track and field and cross country.
Representing the university division, Wright is a five-time NCAA champion who became the fifth woman in NCAA history to win the 800-meter run at both the indoor and outdoor Division I championships in the single year (2010). A double-major in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology and ecology and evolutionary biology, was the Southeastern Conference scholar-athlete of the year for all sports.
Pixler, who represents the college division, holds 12 NCAA Division II championships. She won the 1,500-meter run three times in four years. A recipient of an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, the English major was named Seattle Pacific athlete of the year for four consecutive years and was the Great Northwest Conference athlete of the year in cross country, indoor and outdoor track this year.
