The College Sports Information Directors of America named Alabama’s Greg McElroy and Isaac Odim of Minnesota Duluth as the 2010 ESPN Football Academic All-Americans of the Year.
McElroy, a graduate student with a degree in business marketing, is pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration while he quarterbacks the Crimson Tide for the second consecutive year. A Rhodes Scholarship finalist, McElroy has led Alabama to a 9-2 record in 2010, a year after claiming the BCS national championship. McElroy has thrown for 5,094 yards and 36 touchdowns in his career at Alabama while throwing only ten interceptions in that time.
Odim, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.85 grade-point average, suffered a season-ending injury earlier this season. A running back, Odim was a member of the Bulldogs’ Division II national championship team in 2008 as a sophomore. He finished his career holding school records with 4,245 rushing yards on 589 attempts, a 7.2 yards-per-rush average. In 2010, he rushed for 796 yards and scored 17 touchdowns in just six games.
