William Rhoden’s November 6, 2010, New York Times column (“Coaches shouldn’t be immune to penalties”) implies that the NCAA does not sanction college coaches, which is flat out wrong. If a college coach is involved in a violation of NCAA rules, he or she is at risk for NCAA penalties. Universities must make employment decisions; however, these NCAA penalties can, and often do, include limits on coaching duties.
Further, the NCAA is committed to facilitating discussions among key groups to identify solutions for agent-related issues. However, any penalty imposed on NFL players is under the purview of the NFL and NFL Players Association.
